Brief Bio-sketch:

Dr. Biswarup Pathak did his Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Professor E. D. Jemmis at Hyderabad Central University. Soon after his PhD, he joined Prof. Jerzy Leszczynski (Jackson State University, USA) and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja (Uppsala University, Sweden) for postdoctoral studies. In 2012, he joined IIT Indore as an Assistant professor in the Discipline of Chemistry and since 2016, he is an associate professor. His major areas of interest are of designing of nanomaterials for oxygen reduction reactions. Dr. Pathak has published over 100 papers in highly reputed international journals. His works have been cited over 2000 times and Dr. Pathak received Early and Mid-Career Research Award from INSA in 2017 and IIT Indore Best Researcher Award in 2016.

FUNCTIONALIZED SOLID NANOPORE BASED ELECTRODES FOR RAPID DNA SEQUENCING

The prospect of finding an improved method for rapid genome sequencing might offer a completely new way of preventive health care. Recently solid-state nanopores have generated lot of interest for rapid DNA sequencing. However, the main challenge is to slow down the DNA translocation process to achieve a single-nucleobase resolution. Functionalization of electrodes is a promising approach for this. We have used a range of computational tools in an attempt to study the electronic structure and transport properties of individual nucleotides and short DNA strands in several model systems. Functionalizations [1-4] of electrodes are done to achieve a single-nucleobase resolution.

Here we will present a critical overview of some of the benefits that the covalent attachment of various probe molecules might offer in the context of DNA sequencing with nanopore-embedded electrodes.
