Brief Bio-sketch:

Balasubramanian received his Ph.D. in 1994 and joined the faculty of JNCASR in 1998, after a postdoctoral stint at the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests are in modelling a variety of complex, condensed matter systems including ionic liquids, carbonic acid, supramolecular polymers, enzyme catalysis, and CO2 storage.

MOLECULAR MODELLING : A THREE PART STORY

Realistic molecular modelling of condensed systems at atomistic detail for a quantitative comparison to experiments is a challenge that computational chemists have been rising up to in the recent past. In this talk, I shall present efforts in our research group in three areas: biomolecular simulations, room temperature ionic liquids and supramolecular polymers. Each of these contexts will be used to illustrate how computer modelling goes hand in hand with experiments to bring fresh, new insights which hitherto were not simply available.
